Chrekjian, George P., 91, passed away on December 31, 2011. George lived most of his life in New Jersey, after retirement, he and his beloved wife Ruth wintered in Hilton Head, SC where they became active members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation. George accomplished much in his long life. He earned a degree in chemistry from Trinity College in Hartford CT and worked for many years as the Head of the Quality Control Laboratory at Lederle Labs. In addition to his work life, he built his own home in Ringwood, NJ, was an expert auto mechanic, electrician, carpenter and plumber and was always at the ready to help friends and family with their home repair and improvement projects. George was a lifelong pacifist and believed in the need to work for a more peaceful and just world. He lived by his convictions and was not afraid to speak what he felt to be true. He is survived by and deeply missed by his two daughters, Jane Mathews and Georganna Woods, his granddaughter Kate Mathews, his caregivers and friends Cass La Russo, and Theresa Gilbert, as well as many dear friends and extended family members. He will live in all our hearts forever. A memorial will be held on Sunday, January 29th at 2 PM at Unitarian Society, 113 Cottage Place, Ridgewood, NJ. Donations can be made to Trinity College in Hartford, CT.
