Wharton, Frances Margaret (Todd), 91, widow of Edward Martin Wharton (10/4/70), passed away on May 28, 2011. Born on September 17, 1919, in Pittsburgh, PA, Frances spent her childhood summers in the Thousand Islands of Chippewa Bay, NY, and graduated from the Most Holy Rosary HS, Syracuse, NY. Frances attended the University of Maryland at College Park, MD, from 1938-40, and later graduated from Montclair State College, NJ, in 1974. Frances married Edward July 12, 1940. They are survived by nine children: Martha Frank of Be’er Sheva, Israel, Edward (Jo Ann) of Davies, FL, John (Anne) of Talbott, TN, Mary Rode of West Chester, PA, Margaret Wharton Mahood of Columbus, OH, Charles (Deborah) of Hopatcong, NJ, Monica Litvany (Steven) of Pompton Lakes, NJ, Justin (Karen) of Orleans, MA, and Christopher of Knoxville, TN. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by her parents, Robert M. and Frances A. (Koch) Todd and her granddaughter, Rachel Frank. The family lived in Bound Brook, NJ, until 1955, when they moved to South Orange, NJ. They were active in Our Lady of Sorrows Church for many years. A loving mother, Frances’s passions in life were her children and travel. She was an accomplished Bridge player, an avid reader, and a staunch supporter of Public television.
