Conklin, Arthur, 91, a lifetime resident of Pompton Plains, NJ passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Whitestone Senior Care Facility in Stroudsburg, PA. A Navy veteran, he served as a signal corpsman in WWII. Arthur spent over 40 years with NJ Transit in their Corporate Offices in Maplewood, NJ having retired in 1990 as Deputy Treasurer. He was active in the community having held the position as Band Parent President for several years helping promote, support and raise funds for the music departments within the schools in Pequannock Township from grades 6-12 during the 1970's. Married to his high school sweetheart for over 40 years, his wife Audrey (Krause) passed away in 1993. He then remarried a long time friend and resident of Pompton Plains, Elaine Crane and was again married for over 18 years until her passing in 2015. During his lifetime, Arthur spent as much time as possible in Ogunquit, Maine, enjoying the beach, the sun and "surf" and New England's "lobsta". Animals and the wildlife became his passion, spending many hours in his yard feeding the birds, the squirrels, raccoons and whatever four legged creatures that made an appearance. He is survived by his two daughters, Nancy (Conklin) Bridges and Cynthia (Conklin) Winchell, Nancy's husband of 40 years, Benjamin Bridges, Cindy's step-son, Aaron Winchell along with Arthur's sister and brother in law, Lois and George Florance, nieces and nephews, Mellisa Florance Lynch (Artie), Charles Florance (Claudia) and Stephen Florance along with 3 great nephews, Christopher, Nicholas and Kenneth Florance. Visiting hours Sunday February 4th from 2-4 P.M. with a service to follow at 4 P.M. at Richards Funeral Home, 4 Newark-Pompton Turnpike, Riverdale, N.J. Corter, Albert L., 52, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. Beloved husband of Lisa (Mangano) Corter and son of Robert and Marguerite (Harty) Corter. Born in Pequannock, he grew up in Ringwood, NJ before moving to Vernon, NJ and then Trumansburg, NY for the last 10 years. He had been employed as an Ironworker for Local #417 in Newburgh, NY and memberships included the First Baptist Church in Trumansburg, NY, Trumansburg Rifle & Pistol Club, the NRA, HOG- Harley Davidson Owners Group, American Quarter Horse Association of Texas and (APHC) Appaloosa Horse Club. De Freest, Eugene (Gene) W. 70, of Hewitt, NJ passed away peacefully after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease on January 21, 2018. He was born in Paterson, NJ and raised in Oakland, NJ. Gene was the son of the late Eugene and Dorothy (Alnor) De Freest. He graduated from Ramapo High School in 1965 and joined his family business. Thereafter, he was employed by Glen Rock Stair, Corp. for many years until his retirement. Gene was extremely proud of his time spent in scouting and had the honor of being named the first Eagle Scout in Oakland. He continued his dedication to scouting by mentoring young boys with various projects utilizing his fine woodworking skills. He was an excellent craftsman both in occupation and as a hobby. His true joy was buying and selling antiques and refinishing old furniture. Gene loved his NY Yankees & NJ Devils. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Joan (Feliciano) De Freest, formerly of Hawthorne, NJ. He was the father of Kara (De Freest) Maskerines and her husband Jacob and Krista (De Freest) Tripodi and her late husband Philip. In addition, he leaves his dear granddaughters, Kailey and Rachel Maskerines and his buddy “Philly”. He also is survived by his brother Daryl De Freest and wife Diane of Warwick, NY as well as brother-in- laws, David V. Feliciano, MD and wife Grace and Donald V. DeVelez, Frank C., 70, of Stockholm, NJ, formerly of Riverdale, passed suddenly Wednesday, Jan. 10 in Riverdale. Born in Morristown, NJ, he was a US Navy Veteran and former police officer in Riverdale then becoming owner operator of FCD Trucking working out of Braen Industries in Haledon, NJ for many years. Frank was predeceased by son Craig in 1987. He was a loving husband to his wife Kathleen (Red). Loving Father to Christine and son-in-law, Frank Heffron of Virginia. Falco, Ruth Ellen (Stager), passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018. Mrs. Falco was born in Paterson to Viola and William Stager. She was a graduate of St. Bonaventure’s High School and was employed for many years as a Quality Control Supervisor by Container Corp of America. She was predeceased by brothers, Don, Bob and Bill Stager. Henry, Judith F., age 71, of West Milford, NJ passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, after a brief illness. She was at peace, surrounded by family and friends. Judy was born in St. Louis, Missouri and spent her childhood years in Roseville, Michigan before moving to Upper Saddle River, NJ and attended Ramsey High School. She married Donald B. Henry in 1966 and moved to West Milford. After attending Paterson Commercial College, Judy worked for AER Corporation in Ramsey, NJ as the Corporate Expeditor for several years. She was also a Sunday School teacher at Calvary Bible Church in West Milford for several years, member of the West Milford League of Women Voters, and spent 36 years as a volunteer on the West Milford First Aid Squad. As an EMT, she administered first aid to countless individuals, helped deliver two babies, and assisted in 9/11 rescue efforts. After moving to West Milford, she worked for a local dentist as an assistant, followed by employment with the Ringwood Board of Education and spent summers as a nurse at Camp Hope serving the children of Passaic County. Judy was dedicated to her family, friends, and her community. In her leisure time she enjoyed spending time with her family, vacationing at the beach, camping, reading, crocheting, making crafts, floating in her pool, shopping, listening to music, her dog “Maggie”, and watching her favorite TV shows and movies. Judy is survived by her sister Lynda Kazmark and brother-in-law John Kazmark of Belle Mead NJ, half-brother Harold Wayne Jones Jr. of Freemansburg, PA, stepmother Angie Jones of Larksville, Pennsylvania, daughter Kimberly Gibson and husband Patrick Gibson of Glenwood, NJ, son Mark D. Henry and wife Deborah Henry of East Hanover, NJ, and son David Henry and companion Sonia Pereira, of Riverdale, NJ. Three grandsons, Caleb, Cole, and Caden Gibson and three granddaughters, Kiley Gibson, Ameila and Arianna Henry. She is predeceased by her long-time companion and fiancé Dennis Dougherty, mother Pauline Jones, and father Harold Jones. Mac Kay, George G., 93, husband of late Dorothy (Skorton) (2006), passed on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Born in Newport News, VA, Mr. Mac Kay resided in Pompton Lakes for 65 years coming from Bloomfield. He had served in the US ARMY AIR CORPS during WWII from 1943-1945 and had been employed as an office worker for Abbey Heart Co., in Verona. Mr. Mac Kay was also a member of Pompton Reformed Church, Clifton Elks and Pompton Lakes Golden Agers. He is survived by one son, Robert G. (and wife, Kathy) of Pompton Lakes, one daughter, Diane (and husband, Dave) of Colonia, four grandchildren, Trevor (and wife, Victoria), Robert (and wife, Kaitlyn), Brianna, Vicki and friend Isabel. McCollum, William C., 89, aka Dad, Pop, WC and Dub was loved and adored by everyone he met. He was born in South Carolina. We will miss his many stories. From driving for Allied Freight delivering from Hoboken, NJ to the Tri State area, to his many memories on the farm in South Carolina as a child. He came home everyday to a cooked meal and a can of Budweiser.:) Our yearly trips in the car to South Carolina needless to say was not lacking of any stories. We enjoyed those visits seeing our grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins. The times spent at the lake was the highlight of our trips. Deceased by his wife Claire Elizabeth McCollum or as he put it "My Bride", his father Pate McCollum, mother Dorothy Edens McCollum of South Carolina and sister Frances Purcell of Florida. Survived by his brother George "Lynne" McCollum, sister in law Willie McCollum, many cousins, all in South Carolina and Florida. His children Robert, Ronald, Richard, Michael, Sharon and Jodi. Micklitz, Helen Louise, (nee Hilyer) age 89, born in Ringwood, NJ. She lived with her grandparents and graduated Eleanor G. Hewitt grammar school there. Then graduated Butler High School and Sherwood Secretarial School in Paterson. Worked at Ringwood Manor State Park, several offices before joining the Marine Corps. Life Member of American Legion John A. Dean Post 154 and Auxiliary and Life Member of Wanaque VFW Auxiliary and also Life Member of Marine Corps League in Kearny. Smirgadis, George “Kenezo” a small town boy born in Greece on November 14th 1950, who built a wonderful life in America has passed at the age of 67 on the night of January 13th 2018. He lived his life to the fullest. He gave us many loving memories throughout his life, Such as: his family, his West Milford Diner, the wonderful meals he prepared that brought our family and friends together, including "homeless" meal night at the diner. Some other fond memories of him were: him giving everyone their own special nickname, giving everyone a taste of "spring water", giving candy to all the children who came to the diner, singing classic rock music in his Greek accent, always saying "I no too enthusiastic about this!" And using rubbing alcohol as a cure all. (it's a greek thing). All his grandchildren enjoy going to Papou's Diner, not only did they get enjoyment of being there but it also brought such joy to his heart. We will never forget you, your strength, your generosity, your ambition, and your love you have given to all. Rest in peace. We love you so very much. He is survived by his children, Kimberlee & Richard, Cade & Valerie, Nicholas, Sonya & Cody, Alexandra & Mark.
