A lifelong resident of Butler, she was employed by NJ Bell Telephone as an operator for 8 years in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Surviving are 3 sons, Kenneth (wife, Lois), Brian and Eugene, two sisters, Geraldine Pellington and Grace Polles, 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Backus, Josephine M. (Faucetta), 94, a lifelong resident of Pompton Lakes NJ, passed away on January 19, 2020. Josephine proudly worked for the Pompton Lakes School district at Lincoln Elementary as a cashier in the cafeteria. Behnke, Cornelius, "Neil" age 87 passed away January 12, 2020. A resident of West Milford, NJ for the past fifty years, Neil was an avid N.Y. Giants fan and enjoyed the outdoors including fly fishing and photography. He enjoyed taking day trips antiquing, the Jersey shore and spending time with his family. Chillson, Quindara R., 95, A lifelong resident of Pompton Lakes, died at home on Friday, January 10, 2020. Quinnie was a lifetime communicant of Christ Episcopal Church, Pompton Lakes, Directress Emeritus of its Altar Guild, a Vestry member and participant in many other committees. She was also a former member of the Chilton Medical Center Auxiliary and Pompton Lakes Woman’s Club. She was predeceased by her husband Albert W. Chillson, her beloved sister Eleanor Taylor, her brother Ellsworth Cornelius and nephew Robert A. Cornelius. Clinton, Eileen Mary, 76, of West Milford, NJ passed away at her home with her loving husband by her side on January 29, 2020. She was born in the Bronx, New York where she attended Preston High School. She graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School in 1963 and went on to work as an Executive Secretary at Estee Lauder Co. During this time she met the love of her life Kenneth Clinton, a charming young man also from the Bronx. They married in 1966 and moved to West Milford where they raised four children. Their house was a loving and welcoming place that was filled with music and laughter. Anyone who entered was greeted with Eileen's smiling face and warm hello. Those years were filled with school and bagpipe band activities, Highlander sports, backyard parties and trips to the Jersey Shore. Eileen's time was spent driving car loads of kids around, helping to write reports on any topic, and making breakfast for dozens of teenagers at any time of day. She loved and supported her husband and children in everything that they did. In their retirement, Eileen and Ken loved to entertain friends, were avid Yankee fans, and played very competitive backgammon and Rummy Cube. Eileen enjoyed trips to the beach and sitting with Ken on their back deck in West Milford. Upon moving to Bald Eagle Commons, she made many friends and enjoyed being a part of the Caring Crafters and her ladies lunch group. Eileen's greatest pleasure was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a devoted Gram, celebrating all the holidays with big, delicious dinners and making sure her Christmas tree was bursting with presents underneath. She was the first to congratulate a grandchild for a job well done, whether it was a soccer tournament, a Little League baseball game, a track meet, or a karate belt test, she was always supportive with kind words of encouragement and love. Eileen and Ken spent many relaxing days in recent years with their grandchildren on Ocean Beach 3 in Lavallette, watching them swim and surf, collecting shells, and doing crossword puzzles. Eileen took great pride in her family, her home, her husband, and everything they created together. She is predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Mary Edridge and her brother Thomas. She is survived by her loving husband Ken, her children Courtenay Dolan and her husband Pete, Timothy Clinton and his wife Cathy, Cavan Farrell and her husband Sean, Erin Haworth and her husband Justin, and her nine grandchildren; her sisters Joan Sherlock, Patricia Utzschneider and her husband Rudy, Lorraine Nims and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in her honor on February 12, 2020, at 11:00am at St. Joseph's Church, 454 Germantown Road, West Milford, NJ 07480. Evans, Edward Roger, 75, of Nyack New York passed away peacefully on January 20, 2020. Edward was born to Lillian and Edward G. Evans. After graduating from Nyack High School in 1961, he attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He went on to serve two tours of duty in Vietnam as a captain, then went onto serve in the National Guard. In 1973 he graduated from Fordham University School of Law and went on to practice law in both New Jersey and York state for over forty years. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lynnley. He is survived by his daughter Susan and son-in law Ronald Bator, his daughter Renee and his sister Constance Dinallo. Fineman, Andrew J., loving father, grandfather, teacher, and friend, passed away on Wednesday January 22, 2020 at the age of 75 following a long illness. Andy was born in Bronx, NY and lived in various places around the country and world before settling in Upper Greenwood Lake, NJ in 1985, where he found his true home. Andy was dedicated to a life of service, and committed himself wholly to the communities in which he lived. He served in the United States Air Force, where he was honorably discharged as a Staff Sgt. He taught Special Education at Fort Lee High School for thirty years, serving as a mentor and guide to the thousands of students he engaged. In addition, he served as President of Fort Lee Education Association (FLEA), where he worked tirelessly to support and protect his colleagues throughout the district. In Upper Greenwood Lake he served as Vice President and Beach Manager for the UGL POA, and as a life member of the Upper Greenwood Lake Fire Department, Company 5 where he served as President, Relief Secretary, and Chaplin. Andy’s greatest passion was in the knowledge he could share, and everyone who knew him will miss his stories, his laughter and his heart. Andy was pre-deceased by his wife Kim and is survived by his daughter Erica, his son-in-law Giorgio and his grandchildren Andrew and Mila. Services for Andy will be held on Monday January 27 from 4-8PM at Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford, NJ. Hansen, Mae E. of Hewitt NJ went home to be with her Savior on January 27, 2020. Loving wife to Arthur, Mom to her children Karen Austin and her husband David and Keith Hansen and his wife Amy. Mor Mor to her grandchildren Rebekah, Jacob, Elias and Ava and great grandchildren, Ezra and Silas. Mae was a graduate of Butler High School. She was a collector of rosemaling and children - as a number of family and extended family considered her a second mom and Bestemor. Mae was born in Warwick NY to a family with roots in the area predating the Revolutionary War. While an absolute lady, she was a woman of incredible grit. She celebrated her 90th birthday in December and her 69th wedding anniversary earlier this month. The story of Mae and Art’s wedding is a testimony to the strength of their love. In January 1951, Art, a Corporal in the U.S. Army, was stateside and due to be discharged. He and Mae were planning a spring wedding. On January 1st, Arthur received the “Truman Year” meaning his service was extended one year and he was headed for combat! On January 2nd, Mae left New Jersey on a train bound for Fayetteville NC. On January 3rd, she and Arthur were married at Ft. Bragg. On January 4th, Mae took the train home and Arthur boarded a C54 to General McArthur’s HQ in Tokyo for intelligence training. From there, he was off to Korea. Mae enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod, dining out with family and friends and evenings at home with Art and their beagle, Sarge. Harrington, Albert A., age 99 of Spring Hill, Florida, passed away quietly on January 4th surrounded by his children and grandchildren in West Milford, NJ. Al was pre-deceased by his wife Helen after 66 happy years of marriage. Al was born in West Orange and was a metallurgist by occupation. In WWII, he served in the Marines in the Pacific. Al was among the first Americans to land at Nagasaki just days after the second and larger “Fat Man” atomic bomb was dropped essentially ending the war. Al was a lifelong aviation enthusiast flying is own planes into his 80’s. He enjoyed rebuilding planes and built his own mini-Mustang from plans in his basement. His love of flying is carried on by his son Mark and grandson Tyler. Albert is survived by his daughters Judith McCole and Lynn Harrington Davies, his son Mark and daughter-in-law Wendy, and 3 grandchildren; Ashley & Tyler Harrington, and Drew Davies, and sons-in-law Tom McCole and Bill Davies.
Hopkins, Murry William (Bill) of Hewitt NJ passed into eternal life on Tuesday January 7th 2020. He was born in Walnut Creek California and at a young age, Bill educated himself and worked in the health care industry in New York City. Bill moved to New Jersey and worked as facilities manager for Dynamic Imaging, which was later acquired by General Electric Health Care in Park Ridge. Bill formed strong bonds with his chosen family. He had a great sense of humor, was well read and very intelligent. He will be greatly missed. He leaves behind two brothers from other mothers, Tim Boyle and Ed Frenzel, also of Hewitt, NJ. , The Feldner family of Emerson, NJ. , his sister Marion Hopkins and family of Gunnison CO. as well as many loving friends. At his instruction, his interment will be private. Bill was an advocate for the homeless and those discarded by their families. Martinez, Jaime Perez, 92, of West Milford formerly of Haskell, passed away January 7, 2020. Mr. Martinez was a die setter for Continental Can Co. in Paterson before retiring. He served his country enlisting in the Navy before being drafted into the Army and transferred into the Air Force. Jaime was an active leader in the Boy Scouts for thirty seven years including serving as District Commissioner of Three Rivers District, Passaic County. He was also a life long member of Berkshire Valley Basset Hound Club and a member of Bloomingdale United Methodist Church. Beloved husband of Evelyn (Kitchell) Martinez. O'Sullivan, Florence (Wiley), 92, passed away January 19, 2020. Born in Paterson, NJ to George and Agnes Wiley she lived in Pompton Lakes for seventy years. Along with her late husband William, they opened Fruitland in Pompton Lakes in 1949 the same year they married. Florence managed the fruit baskets at the store, in addition to being an avid gardener and seamstress. Rizzo, Madeline, 97, cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, of Riverdale, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2020. Madeline was born in Pompton Lakes, NJ, and lived most of her life in Riverdale. She was a long-time member of the Riverdale Senior Citizens, where she served as Sunshine Lady for many years. She was also an active member of the VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Eastern Star. Madeline had a long career as a gifted seamstress and also liked to knit, crochet and embroider in her free time. After she retired, she continued to do alterations for family, friends and neighbors for many years. Madeline is predeceased by her husband Arthur, to whom she was married for nearly 50 years. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Lynch and son-in-law James Lynch of Lincoln, RI and her son Karl Rizzo and daughter-in-law Nina Aronzon of Rhinebeck, NY. She also leaves behind her grandson Brendan Lynch and his wife Karen, of Riverdale; her granddaughter Corey Lynch and her husband Andy Kristofek, of Montclair, NJ; her grandson Adam Rizzo and his husband Ian Lockey, of Philadelphia, PA; and great grandchildren Ciaran Lynch and Olivia Costa. Schwaner III, Frederick E, 67, passed away January 3, 2020. Born in Fairlawn, NJ to Frederick and Ruth Schwaner he lived in Prospect Park before moving to West Milford in 1996. Fred was a police officer for Prospect Park Police Department for twenty seven years retiring in 2005 as a Sergeant. He was a member of P.B.A. Local 114, Prospect Park and worked as a security guard for Preakness Health Care, Wayne after his retirement. Beloved husband of Donna (Rasa) Schwaner. Loving father of Andrew Schwaner of West Milford, Mike and Scott Schwaner both of Oakland, and Jordan Schwaner of West Milford. Brother of David Schwaner and wife Kathleen of Michigan. Siemer, Doris, 90, of West Milford, NJ died on January 30, 2020. The second youngest of ten children, born to Robert and Margaret (Curry) Tierney in New York City, where her father was a Lieutenant in the FDNY. She grew up in Greenwich Village, NYC. On Feb 2, 1952 she married John McCarthy in New York City; they moved to their home in Fair Lawn, NJ where they raised their children Lorrie and Chris until his passing in 1959. Doris worked in her family restaurant M&J’s where she met her future husband Bud (Herman) Siemer. They fell in love and married on November 2, 1963. Bud and Doris moved their growing family to Awosting in West Milford, NJ on beautiful Greenwood Lake. Soon after, Corey and Colin were born. Predeceased by her husband Bud (November 3, 2014), Doris is survived by her four children Lorrie (Michael) Stanton of Arlington, VA, Chris McCarthy (Marianne) of Greenwood Lake, NY, Corey Siemer (Heidi) of Hewitt, NJ and Colin Siemer (Paul) of London, UK. Also survived by her 5 grandchildren Tim, Chris, Erin, Brianna and Kayla and many nieces and nephews. Doris loved God, family, people and dancing. She was a parishioner at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church for over 50 years. She was proud of her Irish heritage. Doris enjoyed working for the West Milford Board of Education and supporting the family business H. G. Siemer and Son (wholesale food business). Crafting was a hobby of hers and she was a whiz with the glue gun. She had an eye for style and always looked great. Doris enjoyed hosting many family parties and was active in the Awosting community. Visitation is from 4 PM to 8 PM on Monday, February 3, 2020 at the Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford, NJ 07480. Funeral mass on Tuesday, February 4 at 10 AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Hewitt, NJ. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Oak Ridge, NJ. Thomason, Rose M. (Capalbo) age 91 passed away January 3, 2020. Born in Garfield, NJ to Anthony and Christiana Capalbo she lived in Wayne for the past fifty years. Rose was a secretary for Prudential Insurance Company in Wayne prior to retiring. Beloved mother of Elaine Corter of Pompton Lakes and Gary Thomason of Teaneck. Sister of Yolanda Powell of Florida. Grandmother of Marlene Thomason and great grandmother of Declan Andrews. Predeceased by her Husband John Thomason, daughter Karen Thomason, brothers Anthony and John Thomason and sisters Adeline Yarnsloff and Theresa Papparozzi. Visiting hours Wednesday January 8, 6-8 pm at Richards Funeral Home, 4 Newark-Pompton Turnpike, Riverdale. Private Entombment.
