Kelly, Daniel David (Dan, Danny, KelDog, DK), age 68, born in Brooklyn NY in August 1954 found peace and rest on Saturday, January 28, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones. Songs were sung and tears were shed as love was evident. Dan was the son of Mary (Egan) and Frank Kelly. Both of whom he was extremely excited to meet in heaven along with many aunts, uncles, his grandparents, cousins and friends who have all gone before him. Danny was one of 5 children known as “The Kelly’s”. John Kelly, Owen Kelly wife Carolyn, MaryAnn Skubus husband Jim and Jean Kelly. As the second oldest he was sometimes the troublemaker getting his brothers and neighborhood friends to be wingmen and play along with his mischievous ideas. He had fond memories with all his cousins growing up and loved each one of them. He attended Queen of Peace elementary school and graduated from DePaul high school. Dan’s children were loved beyond words by him and bragged about endlessly. Even if it wasn’t known by them how much he spoke about each one and how special they were to him- it's true. He was proud to be their dad! His greatest accomplishments were his six children: Daniel Gunther, Kimberly Kelly, Aaron Hasbruck wife Kristin, Mark Kelly wife Stacie, Ian Kelly wife Kimberly and Kate Romeo husband Jason. Grandpa will be deeply missed by his 10 grandchildren Braelyn, Kelton, Norah, Kiernan, Andrew, Delia, Brynn, Emilie, Ryan and Benjamin. They were all the light of his life. He enjoyed celebrating them at birthday parties, sporting events and family gatherings more than anything. Daniel derived great pleasure from his friendships with his nephew and nieces. Mary Smith husband Tim and children Arlo and Martha, Ramie Cullen husband Jeff, Michael Kelly, JaneAnn Wornmann husband Adam and children Owen, Cole and ClaraJoy. Dan was kind-hearted. He was talented. He was fun. He played beautiful music. Dan was known for his long hair and gritty singing voice. He didn’t go anywhere without his guitar. He was in a band, The Irish Wave, with his 2 brothers and great friends for many years. Always a hard worker Dan definitely worked to live and live he did. He wanted world peace and had his unorthodox ways of how it was possible. He was extremely intelligent and always knew how to think outside the box. He enjoyed playing golf. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan and a NY Rangers fanatic. Dan worked for Hannaford grocery and had a close bond with all his co-workers. He had a personality so genuine yet unique. Dan was the life of the party, the first to show up and the last to leave. His fantasy football opponents will miss KelDog this year when it's time to pick teams as there might not be anyone that was as eager as Dan. While friends and family are heavy hearted to say farewell to Danny, they are grateful for the years of laughter from his wise guy sense of humor. In his last days he spoke with certainty that he was ready to go home. Dan was not scared of death as he claimed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He knew heaven awaited him and spoke of it often. He knew he was going to be pain free, finally. While the void we all now have will never be filled, we know that Danny is at peace and suffering no more. The family wishes to thank the Compassus Care hospice team Meghan, Chaplain Jack and Ronald for their care and constant source of strength. Dan’s family would like to also thank the nursing team and staff at Milford Manor and the Kidney Dialysis rockstars at the Pinnacle for all of their support, loving care and friendship to our dad during his struggles. There will be a wake at Richards Funeral Home 1440 Union Valley Road in West Milford, NJ from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Saturday, February 4, 2023.
