Tintle, Gerald LeRoy passed away peacefully on March 31, surrounded by his loving family in the home he and his devoted wife, Virginia, built together over sixty-five years ago. Together they raised five children, and their family grew to include fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren. This lively home was one of joyous family celebrations, one where his warm smile and hearty laugh welcomed family and friends, distant relatives and neighbors. He had the unique ability to make others feel special. He was gregarious and thoughtful, quick with an anecdote and never short of questions. His generosity of spirit transformed everything he touched. Gerald, the son of Harold and Iva Tintle, was born in 1930 and spent his childhood in his beloved town of Butler, New Jersey. He attended Butler Elementary School and graduated in 1947 from Butler High School. He married Virginia and relocated to Pompton Lakes where he founded Tintle’s Moving Service. He went on to spend close to seventy years in the moving business having started by delivering goods from railway express with his father. He eventually served generations of families moving them locally and long distances working alongside his brother, Donald and his son, Todd. Gerald was a good man, a man of his word; one who never asked but always gave. He had a passion for life. He built and restored furniture, raised Belgian horses, built wagons, carriages and a horse-drawn trolley. Summers meant pony rides. Winters meant horse drawn sleigh rides. Gerald and Virginia established Tintle’s 1765 Shoppe. Together they shared Gerald’s handmade furniture and their joy of collecting antiques and special items. His zest for life made small adventures great and the biggest of challenges reachable. In this and so much more he set an example. There was no task too large or hour too early for Gerald. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Virginia Maletsky Tintle, his children: daughter Lauren Tintle and husband, John of Hawley, PA, son Dr. Kevin Tintle and wife, Linda of Middletown, NY, son Dr. Dean Tintle and wife, Dr. Linda of Westbrookville, NY, son Todd Tintle and wife, Ellen of Pompton Lakes, NJ and daughter Alison Murphy and husband, Bryan of Madison, CT, fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. With them he laughed loud, talked much and traveled far. He leaves them with the dearest of memories, the treasures of times spent together, the lessons of life, the courage to try new things and the peace that comes from the heart. The world is lucky to have enjoyed his company. A memorial service will be held at the Pompton Reformed Church on Saturday, April 14 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Gerald LeRoy Tintle may be made to the Salvation Army 4 Gary Road Union, NJ 07083.
